EA Bidirectional Power Supplies
The EA 20000 Series and 10000 Series bidirectional DC power supplies bring a host of capabilities and efficiencies. Bidirectional regenerative supplies are more cost-effective and environmentally friendly because they recover energy and feed it back into the grid with >96% efficiency to reduce heat, noise and HVAC costs. True autoranging delivers maximum power across a wider range of voltage and current values while a suite of optional control interfaces enables computer control in near any manufacturing environment.
20000 Series models offer 3 independent channels, fast 1ms response times, and integrated safety sense functionality for sensitive applications. EA supplies can parallel easily up to 3.84MW in output power, at up to 2000VDC. They come standard with a built-in function generator capable of creating arbitrary waveforms, included test routines for battery test, fuel cell simulation, PV solar array simulation with MPP tracking, and more.

Three Fast, Precise Outputs
Reduce validation time and accelerate development with the EA PSB 20000 Series with three independent, fully isolated channels, allowing parallel testing of components such as motors, inverters, and onboard chargers within the same setup. Integrated safety sense compensates for voltage drops across cables to ensure accurate voltage delivery directly to the device under test (DUT). This feature protects sensitive equipment and ensures consistent, high-precision performance during testing.
Each channel delivers up to 10 kW, with voltages from 0–920 V and currents up to 340 A, ensuring high performance. It features 1ms communication speed across built-in control interfaces, providing precise and reliable operation.
Bidirectional Supplies Offer Full Solutions from a Single Instrument
EA Elektro-Automatik Bidirectional Programmable DC Power Supplies can sink (absorb/dissipate) power just as well as they can source it. They operate in Quadrants I and II of the Current-Voltage plane, being positive voltage and both positive/negative current. This configuration is ideal for working with systems designed to source and sink power with a constant potential like battery systems, solar inverters, automotive powertrains, and more. When 4 quadrant capability is needed, consider Keithley Source Measure Units which can source/sink across positive/negative voltage and current.
Autoranging Gives Flexibility
EA Elektro-Automatik products have autoranging, which allows the supply or load to operate at max power across a range of voltages and currents, down to 33% of the rated output maximum.Compare this to traditional power supplies, which can only output their rated power at their max voltage and max current. Applying the maximum voltage to a device under test (DUT) is rare, which means most of the time, that supply is not being used to its full potential.
How does it work? EA sources automatically offer more current at lower voltages (or more voltage at lower currents), allowing the supply to continue outputting the rated power. This allows a single source to address multiple voltage and current combinations that would otherwise require multiple supplies.
Regeneration turns waste into savings
EA regenerative electronic loads and bidirectional supplies can recover up to 96% of the energy they sink, that means the AC mains connection is also used as output for the back-feed of the supplied DC energy.Traditional electronic loads or resistor banks dissipate their sunk power by turning it into heat. This can require large cooling/HVAC solutions and that sunk energy is then lost forever as waste, reducing test and facility efficiency.
Energy recovered by EA loads is fed back into the local facility grid with a mains-synchronized inverter, where that energy can be used by other devices in the facility. If more energy is recovered than used by the facility (a possibility when testing fuel cell output, for example), the energy can be fed back out to the public grid.
Built-In Function Generator Simplifies Setups
Many EA supplies and loads include an integrated function generator that can be used to drive the voltage or current output. All the typical AFG waveforms are available as well as arbitrary capability with sequencing for creating more custom output waveforms. This AFG capability scales with multiple supplies in parallel.
The function generator allows the supply to simulate or test complex behaviors like:
- Simulating a solar cell with accurate open circuit voltage, short circuit current, and maximum power point (MPP) voltage and current.
- Testing inverter efficiency to CSN EN 50530 standards.
- Testing LV123, LV124 and LV148 standards for automotive suppliers.
Control the way you Control
Using the right control interface simplifies setup and reduces troubleshooting, so the EA-10000 Series supports the AnyBus system allowing for field installable communication options for common industrial interfaces like ProfiNet, CANopen, Modbus-TCP, DeviceNet, EtherCAT, RS-232, and more. These are in addition to standard included interfaces like USB and Ethernet.
Industrial Series for Most Demanding Power Needs
For the highest energy density needs and future-oriented applications, the EA-10000 Industrial Series is available. 6U form factors offer up to 60kW of power, and 19” rack solutions mean you can deliver 300kW of power from only 0.6 m2 of floor space. Combine up to 13 racks for 3.84MW of bidirectional power delivery and recovery. The industrial series are available as a unidirectional power supply (PU), bidirectional power supply (PUB), and regenerative electronic load (PUL).Series | Power | Voltage | Current | Channels | Industrial | Quote |
