EA-BT 20000 Series Battery Testers

Optimized for battery testing and battery simulation, the EA-BT 20000 Series are fully bidirectional supplies, allowing full control for both discharging and charging battery cells, packs, or modules. A max power of 30kW and the ability to parallel channels for up to 1800 A allows you to scale a solution to meet your needs. Included regenerative technology recovers energy during battery discharge or while simulating a charging battery and feeds that energy back into the local grid that would otherwise be lost as heat, reducing operating expenses and HVAC costs.

Battery Testing

Run a benchtop test or configure an automated system for production testing of batteries as cells, modules, or packs. Determine SOH (State-of-Health), second life classification, and perform EOL (End-of-Line) testing. An efficiency of up to 96% means you lose less energy when performing repeated battery cycling, feeding sunk energy back into the local grid.

Battery Simulation

Simulate battery cells, modules, or even full packs when designing or testing systems that work with batteries to get repeatable results that aren’t dependent on one-off battery errors. Overcurrent protection (OCP) prevents damage to sensitive components and voltage and current datalogging allow a better picture of how your design is working.

Battery Recycling

Recover energy from batteries at their end of life before being sent to recycling. Autoranging capability allows the maximum possible discharge current down to 2 V while the regenerative capability feeds recovered energy back into the grid with 96% efficiency.

3 Channels multiply your throughput

The EA-BT 20000 Triple battery tester brings 3 10kW channels to a single 4U instrument. Each channel can be controlled individually to maximize test throughput, or paralleled together for higher current when test needs require.

High precision and high speed

Every EA-BT 20000 Series includes external sense to measure voltage directly at the battery. This gives you greater precision in your measurements and reduces errors caused by voltage drop through test leads, most important when using high current.

Three channel models and 1 ms communication speed accelerate your testing on the bench and in automated systems. Active pre-charge, cable and connection checks, and cable overload protections further speed your testing and prevents downtime.

Autoranging Gives Flexibility

EA Elektro-Automatik products have autoranging, which allows the supply or load to operate at max power across a range of voltages and currents, down to 33% of the rated output maximum.

Compare this to traditional power supplies, which can only output their rated power at their max voltage and max current. Applying the maximum voltage to a device under test (DUT) is rare, which means most of the time, that supply is not being used to its full potential.

How does it work? EA sources automatically offer more current at lower voltages (or more voltage at lower currents), allowing the supply to continue outputting the rated power. This allows a single source to address multiple voltage and current combinations that would otherwise require multiple supplies.

Regeneration turns waste into savings

EA regenerative electronic loads and bidirectional supplies can recover up to 96% of the energy they sink, that means the AC mains connection is also used as output for the back-feed of the supplied DC energy.

Traditional electronic loads or resistor banks dissipate their sunk power by turning it into heat. This can require large cooling/HVAC solutions and that sunk energy is then lost forever as waste, reducing test and facility efficiency.

Energy recovered by EA loads is fed back into the local facility grid with a mains-synchronized inverter, where that energy can be used by other devices in the facility. If more energy is recovered than used by the facility (a possibility when testing fuel cell output, for example), the energy can be fed back out to the public grid.
