April 6, 2012
Dear Valued Customer,
Tektronix is voluntarily recalling all units of its 100MHz & 200MHz 4 channel THS3014 and THS3024 oscilloscopes.
Please stop using these products immediately. This recall applies to the listed models below and affects all units shipped to distributors and end-users.
Affected Items:
Model Numbers | Description |
THS3014 | THS3000 Series Handheld Oscilloscope: 100MHz, 4 Channel |
THS3014-TK | THS3000 Series Handheld Oscilloscope with travel kit: 100MHz, 4 Channel |
THS3024 | THS3000 Series Handheld Oscilloscope: 200MHz, 4 Channel |
THS3024-TK | THS3000 Series Handheld Oscilloscope with travel kit: 200MHz, 4 Channel |
Description of the Problem – The recalled THS3000 Series oscilloscopes are used to observe the exact wave shape of an electrical signal using automatic measurements to obtain readout values. All units shipped with Firmware v1.0 have a potential to display the decimal point of the measurement value in the wrong position. While we are not aware of any incident involving personal injury, this bug poses a potential safety risk for the user, as an unsafe voltage may be indicated as a much lower (safe) voltage. This potential safety risk could result in serious injury or death and therefore led to Tektronix’ decision for a product recall.
Solution – Tektronix will be providing a firmware fix that will eliminate the software error in the instrument’s measurement system. More details on how this fix is to be performed on affected instruments will be published shortly. Further information on this recall will be published at http://www.tek.com/service/safety once available. Inquiries related to this recall effort should be addressed to following email address: [email protected]
Requested Action – We recommend all end-users to stop using the THS3000 Series oscilloscope until the instrument is updated to the new firmware version. This new firmware will be released shortly and Tektronix will contact you with options on how your instrument can be updated in the most convenient way for you.
We are undertaking this safety notice and voluntary recall because we place tremendous importance on our customer’s safety and the reputation of our products.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused by this action.
If you have any questions, please call your local Tektronix sales representative. Regional contact details can be found at http://www.tek.com/contact-us and email inquiries specific to this recall can be addressed to following address: [email protected]
