Key Sounds Calibration Parameters

The most common calibration parameters for sound measurement equipment include:

  • Sound Pressure Level (SPL): Ensures the accuracy of the sound level meter in measuring the intensity of sound in decibels (dB).
  • Frequency Response: Verifies that the equipment accurately measures sound across a range of frequencies, typically from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
  • Linearity: Checks that the equipment provides consistent readings across different sound levels, ensuring that the response is proportional to the input.
  • Dynamic Range: Ensures the equipment can accurately measure both very quiet and very loud sounds without distortion.
  • Time Weighting: Confirms that the equipment correctly applies different time weightings (e.g., Fast, Slow, Impulse) to measure varying sound levels over time.
  • Environmental Conditions: Calibration may include adjustments for temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure to ensure accurate measurements under different environmental conditions.
  • Microphone Sensitivity: Ensures that the microphone’s sensitivity is correctly calibrated to detect sound levels accurately.
