Special Pricing on Tektronix Education Oscilloscopes

Tektronix Entry Oscilloscopes product manager, Cyrilla Menon, holding the 2 Series MSO EDU and TBS1052C-EDU

High-Quality Education with High-Quality Scopes

In classrooms around the world, oscilloscopes are a gateway to understanding the invisible world of signals and circuits. But for many students, the excitement of discovery often gives way to frustration as they wrestle with complex controls and unfamiliar interfaces. Students and instructors often waste precious lab time figuring out how to use their instruments, instead of learning fundamental electrical engineering concepts.

To help students and instructors get the most out of lab time, Tektronix’s education oscilloscopes, the TBS1052C-EDU and the 2 Series MSO EDU, offer specialized teaching features. Additionally, the 2 Series MSO features the same intuitive UI as advanced oscilloscopes students will encounter in fields like electric vehicle research and semiconductor innovation.

These oscilloscopes are available to schools at 22% savings on the TBS1052C-EDU 2-channel oscilloscope and up to 49% on select 2 Series MSO EDU oscilloscope models.

As part of Tektronix’s commitment to high-quality education, these oscilloscopes are available to schools at 22% savings on the TBS1052C-EDU 2-channel oscilloscope and up to 49% on select 2 Series MSO EDU oscilloscope models. As Tektronix’s Entry Oscilloscopes Product Manager, Cyrilla Menon is dedicated to making these powerful teaching tools more affordable for schools, reflecting her commitment to education. In this blog, we’ll hear from Cyrilla about the key features of the TBS1052C-EDU and 2 Series MSO EDU oscilloscopes that make them ideal for students and instructors.

Tektronix’s Commitment to Education

When asked why Tektronix is so deeply committed to education, Cyrilla explained, “For nearly 80 years, Tektronix has supported the scientists, engineers, and technicians around the world who shape the future with their incredible breakthroughs and innovations. Enabling the next generation to carry on that amazing work is a vital part of Tektronix’s mission.”

“It’s also a personal motivator for me. Just as everybody remembers their first car or first computer, many engineers remember their first oscilloscope. I want future engineers to remember that experience as a good one, one that will inspire them as they build their career.” After seeing what students have accomplished with high-quality Tektronix oscilloscopes, she’s determined to make these powerful teaching tools more affordable to schools.

Oscilloscopes Designed for Teaching

The TBS1052C-EDU and 2 Series MSO EDU oscilloscopes are ideal for the university lab because they were designed for teaching. The 2 Series MSO-EDU offers both 2- and 4-channel models with the most popular bandwidths for university labs – 70, 100, and 200 MHz. The scope also features a wide selection of serial communications analysis: I2C, SPI, RS-232/422/485/UART, CAN, CAN FD, CAN XL, LIN, 10BaseT1S Automotive Ethernet, and SENT; built-in arbitrary function generator (AFG) and digital pattern generator to provide source signals for labs; and 16 digital channels (with probe) for multi-signal labs.

Cyrilla also highlighted special features that can help students learn electrical engineering concepts and effectively use their oscilloscope. “Our scopes have always had education-specific features, such as Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and on-board HelpEverywhere to help students easily navigate the oscilloscope. This feature provides students with onscreen text and graphics, giving them tips on instrument settings, measurement information, and even application usage.

“Our scopes also feature the ability to enable/disable Autoset, helping students learn how to use the buttons or touchscreen features to capture their waveform. Autoset is nice for the seasoned engineer, but sometimes manual adjustments are needed to focus in on events of interest .”

The TBS1052C-EDU has the additional features of a built-in oscilloscope handbook that teaches basic oscilloscope operations and built-in courseware. Meanwhile, the 2 Series MSO-EDU has a collection of engineering student labs on tek.com and supports remote access through its Ethernet port.

The 2 Series MSO EDU offers another advantage: the same intuitive user interface as the advanced Tektronix touchscreen oscilloscopes. This makes it incredibly easy for students to get started, and once they’re familiar with this model, they can seamlessly transition to using the 3-, 4-, 5-, and 6-Series MSO oscilloscopes. Whether they’re working in power labs, tackling advanced academic research, or entering the industry, this continuity prepares them for success at every level.

Cyrilla also mentioned the added value of a 5-year warranty on these oscilloscopes. “We have always offered a 5-year manufacturer warranty for the TBS1000C product line, and the TBS1052C-EDU will have the same protection. We are raising the protection on the 2 Series with our 5-year Total Protection plan. This is a commitment to the quality of our products. High quality backed by a comprehensive warranty gives teachers and lab managers peace of mind, especially with teaching labs being so demanding on scopes. It allows them to focus their attention where it’s needed most – on teaching.”

Student Innovation with Tektronix Oscilloscopes

With firsthand experience as a lab manager, Cyrilla knows what is needed to help students reach their highest potential in the lab - “high-quality instruments at an affordable price.” Cyrilla has seen many times that access to high-quality tools can make all the difference when it comes to unlocking innovation and enhancing learning, especially in the hands of talented students.

With the help of a 2 Series MSO, California Polytechnic State University's undergraduate racing team was able to make impressive strides in their electric vehicle car’s build quality for the 2023 season. They incorporated lighter materials and switched to Tesla’s high-density batteries by using the 2 Series MSO to fine-tune and validate their car's performance with precision.

Students at Georgia Tech also spoke highly of the 2 Series MSO, mentioning they “enjoyed the well-balanced functionality and the familiar interface offered by the 2 Series MSO in a compact package.” They went further to say the “Tektronix MSOs have been very useful for prototyping, testing, and validating digital systems.”
